Classy Kitchen

Ed Hoffman's Model AAnyone who keeps a digger in his kitchen is okay with us!
Ed Hoffman is known around Allentown, Pa., as a well-rounded racer who goes both ways: in straight lines and around in circles (not to mention demo-derby competition). As far back as 1982, Hoffman was a nostalgia racer ahead of his time.

The steel Model A, which sat atop a 1957-vintage Lyndwood Eliminator I chassis, took just 90 days and less than $3000 to build — yet ran 9.63 at 141 mph. Ed was among the first in his area to outfit an open-wheeler with an alternator, starter, radiator and electric water pump. When necessary, he'd tow to the track alone, then bracket race all day long, all by himself.

Digger in the KitchenAs for the 'chute-pack digger, alas, its tubing wall proved too thin to pass tech. Rather than cut up this classy chassis, Hoffman sold the whole car to someone who wanted a genuine Junior Fueler. Thus, Ed's looking for another slingshot project.
