Slingshot Kits
By Dave Wallace

Among the highlights of NHRA's California Hot Rod Reunion VII was the appearance of the prototype kit car from second-generation digger-builder Dave Tuttle's California Chassis Engineering (818/341-4919; http://www.cce-tuttle.com; digrtuttle@aol.com).

Dave Tuttle's Slingshot Kit
Every tube for the 200-inch, Top Fuel-spec slingshot is cut, fit and labeled by CCE. The basic $4500 package includes a blueprint, welded rearend housing, front axle, spindles, steering, motor plates and mounting tabs. For another $400, Stage II provides a rigidly welded back half (from the rear motor plate to the cage area). Construction blueprints are available for $100 (refundable with a chassis order).

Brendan Murry owns and Nick Arias III drives the first car delivered (pictured), which runs the three-pushrod Hemi Chevy designed two decades ago — and recently reintroduced — by Nickie's famous father, Nick Arias Jr. Also now available in kit form are the Stirling slingshots favored by a majority of West Coast nostalgia teams.

Chassis-builder Rob Stirling has always sold his diggers in any stage of completion desired by individual customers, but is only now marketing the packages as kit cars.
